Gwendolyn Boyd, the first female president of Alabama State University, agreed to a $300,000/year contract that, surprisingly, included a clause stating “as long as Boyd is single and president of the university — and residing in the president’s house on campus — she cannot ‘cohabitate with any person with whom she has a romantic relation’.” Whoa.

While Boyd, who is single and a minister, was not bothered by the language and signed the contract without legal counsel, her willingness to abide by such a stipulation has caused a stir. Apparently, no preceding university president had to sign such a clause, and some experts are questioning  its legality.

She is “Obama’s pick for the district court for the Southern District of his home state of Illinois.” Politico says if confirmed, Yandle would be “the first African-American judge ever on that court, and the first openly gay judge in the 7th Circuit, which covers Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.”
