We pick the season’s best fashion ideas for the workplace.
Fall is here and, if you haven’t done it yet, now is the time to do a closet edit and see what you need for the season. Designers sent many wearable fashion ideas down the runways for A/W ’13, and we’ve highlighted five trends that will translate well for the office and, more importantly, stand up to fashion’s fickle nature.
Own it, Work it!
Channel the confident style of Katharine Hepburn with menswear-inspired pieces in variations of tweeds and plaids. Try a schoolboy blazer in glen plaid or a flat-front trouser in herringbone.
Add roar with animal prints – Leopard is pretty much a standard print, so stand out with snow leopard, python, or giraffe print, but avoid looking like Nat Geo Wild by sticking to one patterned piece.
Emerald green is Pantone’s color for 2013, and the inviting tone pops in a pencil skirt or silk blouse.
The warmth and decadence of winter white makes cold weather (and bored meetings) more bearable. Dip it in black for a little pow, or wrap yourself in a luxurious vanilla coat.
Can you make leather work for work? Of course you can! To look more like an avant-garde professional than a biker chick, stick to leather accents like a knit skirt with a leather hem, a black blazer with leather sleeves, or a leather-trimmed blouse.
