Throwback Thursday: Jamie-Lynn Sigler

Jamie-Lynn Sigler. Photos by Gillian Laub for Mademoiselle, 2001.

I was combing through some old work photos for TBT and found this. This is my own The Sopranos memory – a show that I watched religiously every week at my cousin’s apartment. RIP James Gandolfini.

This was 2001. The Sopranos was must-watch TV, and Jamie-Lynn Sigler was a young actress whose star was on the rise. The fresh-faced 19-year-old had been playing Meadow Soprano in The Sopranos for two years, yet she hadn’t gone all Hollyweird.

Sigler was interviewed for the “Firsts & Lasts” page of Mademoiselle. It was a Q&A on the last page with up-and-comers talking about their “first” and “last” experiences. (Hers were cute for a 19-year-old. First outrageous fashion statement: “in first grade, I thought the new fashion was a sweatshirt and tights, no skirt.“)

I worked at Mademoiselle at the time, responsible for photo shoot production and shopping the market (pulling  clothes and accessories at PR firms and showrooms) for features stories and editorial sections. I was young, broke and full of dreams. Watching Sigler on the set made me hopeful that I too could pursue and achieve my passion.

Sigler was nice and gracious on the set that day. And after ogling the rack of pretty blouses (I was more enamored by the clothing in the room than the celebrity!), we ended up going with a white Peter Som top for the shot. Picture perfect.
